A 20-year-old woman was arrested around noon today after police officers found 892 grammes of marijuana in her handbag at Bartica.
Police said that they contacted the woman at the Stelling after receiving a tip. The ranks took her to the Bartica Police Station, where they searched an orange handbag she was carrying, and found a quantity of cannabis leaves, seeds and stems wrapped in transparent plastic and concealed in a multi-colored blanket.
The narcotic was weighed in her presence and amounted to 892 grams. She was arrested, cautioned, and stated that she brought the narcotic for her uncle. Checks were made for the relative, but he could not be located.
Investigations are ongoing.
