A Clothes vendor was remanded to prison after the court heard that she allegedly stabbed a woman with a pitchfork after a scuffle over a gambling game.

53-year-old Denise Hillman of Lamaha Park Squatting Area was remanded by Chief Magistrate Ann McLennan when she appeared at the Georgetown Magistrates’ Courts and was slapped with an attempted murder charge.

It is alleged that on July 11, 2021, at Lamaha Park Squatting Area, Georgetown, she caused grievous bodily harm to Otley White with intent to murder.

The Prosecutor told the court that the two women know each other because they both live in the same area. He said that on the day in question, White’s brother and Hillman’s son were gambling when a fight ensued.

He said that the two women went to the location of the fight and when White tried to intervene, Hillman grabbed a pitchfork which she used to stab White. The woman was stabbed to her right side chest and was taken to the Georgetown Public hospital where she remains a patient in the female surgical ward.

The Chief Magistrate remanded Hillman until August 5. She also ordered for the woman to be seen by a doctor because of injuries which she told the court she suffered. According to Hillman, White threw a substance at her and it burned her skin. She claimed that the police have not taken her to see a doctor and that the woman’s family also assaulted her on July 11.
