Two young women were refused bail after they denied having 518.7g of cannabis in their possession.
24-year-old Shontell Evans, and 19-year-old Phimhera Evans were today hauled before Senior Magistrate Leron Daly at the Georgetown Magistrates’ Courts and were remanded.
It is alleged that they had in their possession, 518.7 grams of cannabis for the purpose of trafficking.
According to the prosecutor’s facts, CANU officers who acted on information went to Lot 169 James Street Albouystown where the two women were the only occupants of the home at the time. The officers conducted a search and found the narcotics.
The women were then taken to the CANU Headquarters where they were later charged.
The duo was represented by attorney Lammy Singh who said that his clients had no knowledge of the items. He said that the narcotics were found in a barrel.
Singh made an application for his clients to be released on bail and explained that Shontell is six months pregnant while, Phimhera is still a teen. He said the younger of the two, was only visiting her sister to assist her given she’s pregnant.
However, the Court Prosecutor told the court that due to the large quantity stated in the charge, he objected to bail. The women were then remanded until August 20.
