The Guyana Police Force earlier today between 06:30hrs and 08:25 hrs, confiscated an illegal firearm and ammunition during a search at Costello Housing Scheme, Georgetown.
An Inspector, a Detective Sergeant, a Corporal and eight other ranks went to Lot# 35 Costello Housing Scheme, Georgetown where a search was conducted on the business premises and living quarters of a 44-year-old businesswoman and a 40-year-old male shopkeeper of the said address.
The police ranks conducted a search for narcotics, guns, ammunition and stolen items. A female rank conducted a search on the person of the businesswoman -who at the time was wrapped in a towel – and found a suspected firearm. The firearm is a Taurus .32 Revolver bearing serial # QL42412 made in Brazil. There were two live .32 ammunition in the firearm.
The businesswoman and the shopkeeper were told of the offence committed, cautioned, arrested and escorted to Police Headquarters, Eve Leary. They remain in police custody assisting with the investigation. Meanwhile, the firearm and ammunition were sealed and lodged.
