An intelligence-led operation by a party of police last Saturday resulted in the discovery of a quantity of cannabis concealed in white plastic and tied in a black plastic bag; carried in the hand of a man at Mon Repos, East Coast Demerara on Saturday last.
The suspect, Romel Ramsingh, upon seeing the ranks, attempted to discard the package into a parked van.
He was apprehended and told of the offense before being arrested and taken to the Beterverwagting Police Station, where the cannabis was weighed in his presence and amounted to 3,730 grams.
He was charged today for Possession of Narcotics for the Purpose of Trafficking, Contrary to Section 5 (1)(a)(i) of the Narcotics Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Control Act, Chap. 10:10.
Ramsingh appeared at the Sparendaam Magistrate’s Court 2 before Magistrate A. George, where he pleaded not guilty and was remanded to prison until August 31.
