Two persons are now dead and several severely injured following a horrific accident at the Diamond Public Road, East Bank Demerara (EBD) last night around 22:00hrs.
Police have identified the two fatalities as Anthony Persaud, 18, and Aaliyah Edwards, both of Land Of Canaan, EBD.
The duo and others were in minibus #BXX 7256, driven by Kevon Moore, 23, of Five Door Koker Dam, at the time of the accident.
Moore told police that they were returning from the seawalls proceeding south along the eastern carriageway of the said road at a fast rate of speed when he lost control of his vehicle which turned turtle several times and came to a stopped facing in a south-eastern direction.
As a result, all passengers were taken out of the minibus by public-spirited citizens and transported to the Diamond Diagnostic Centre.
The two named deceased were examined and pronounced dead on arrival, and are now at Carmina Funeral Home awaiting post mortem examinations.
Jessie Wishart, 23; Joel Wishart, 20; Odarry Gonsalves, 18; Valencia George, 18; and Shane Argyle, 17; were treated and sent away at the said institution.
The remaining passengers of the minibus were transferred to the Georgetown Public Hospital Corporation and they were further seen and examined by a doctor on duty and admitted patients in the Accident and Emergency Unit.
Those are 18-year-old Sabrina Corlette of Lot 186 Hyde Park, Timehri, EBD, who sustained an open fracture-dislocation to her right ankle and head injuries; Seth Abrams, 18, of Lot 66 Schoonord, West Coast Demerara, who sustained deep abrasion injuries to his right leg; Johnny Persaud, 17, of Lot 108 Land of Canaan, EBD, who sustained abrasions to the shoulders and back; and 16-year-old Micheal James of Lot 29 Koker Dam, Land of Canaan, EBD, who sustained severe head injuries.
A breathalyzer test was conducted on the driver and revealed he had 0.039 and 0.037 micrograms of alcohol in his breath.
He is in custody assisting with the investigation.
