Malesa Lewis, 23, of La Penitence, Georgetown succumbed to injuries she sustained after being struck down on Homestretch Avenue, yesterday morning around 04:30hrs by a drunk driver.
Enquires disclosed that Motorcar # PSS 4025, driven by Delroy Dominique D’Aguiar, 29, of Charlestown, Georgetown, was proceeding east on the northern drive lane of Homestretch Avenue at an alleged fast rate of speed when he collided with Lewis.
He told police that Lewis crossed the road from north to south into his path and that he applied brakes to avoid a collision but failed and collided with the pedestrian.
As a result, Lewis fell onto the road’s surface causing her to receive injuries to her body.
She was picked up in an unconscious state by the emergency medical technicians and rushed to the Georgetown Public Hospital, where she was seen and examined by a doctor on duty. She later succumbed to her injuries while receiving medical attention.
A breathalyzer test was conducted on the driver which revealed that he was above the prescribed limit at 0.038 and 0.036 BAC.
The driver was cautioned and arrested.
On July 28, a pedestrian was killed at Providence, East Bank Demerara after being struck down by a drunk driver.
Eight days ago, Dharanpaul Outar called ‘Paul’, 69, of Fort Ordinance East Canje Berbice, was admitted a patient of the Georgetown Public Hospital after he was struck down on the Fort Ordinance Public Road by a drunk driver.
