– Driver purchases ‘canter load’ of household appliances a day after the robbery
Police have recovered the vehicle, PXX 2237, that was used to transport the suspects, who carried out a daring robbery at Wallison Enterprise in Gordon Street, Kitty on Thursday last when they escaped with $58M in cash and raw gold.
Crime Chief Wendell Blanhum has indicated that the driver of the car abandoned it in front of his home at Lot 435 Cummings Lodge, East Coast Demerara, and left for the interior. Persons in the area said before leaving, he brought home a canter load full of household items which he bought a day after the robbery.
According to the Crime Chief, the driver is currently being pursued by the police.
So far, two security guards and a serving member of the Guyana Police Force have been charged for the heist.
Peon Lee, 35, a security guard of Lot 1781 Second Street, Mocha, Keyon king, 32, a Sergeant attached at the Guyana Police Force (GDF), and Delroy Jackson, 37, a security guard of Kendal Street, Golden Grove, East Bank Demerara, appeared before Principal Magistrate Sherdel Isaacs-Marcus in the Georgetown Magistrates’ Courts on Tuesday last. They were slapped with four joint charges.
It is alleged that while being armed with guns and in the company of each other, they robbed Francis Santos Lumes of 60 ounces of raw gold valued at $20 million and $38 million in cash. It is also alleged that the men while being armed with guns, and in the company of each other and others, they robbed Fernanda Carmicheal of a cell phone worth $350,000.
It is further alleged that the men, while being armed with guns, and in the company of each other and others, they robbed Francis Santos Lumes of a gold chain valued at 140,000, a gold ring valued at $60,000, and $14,000 in cash, total amount being $214,000. The final charge alleges that the men while being armed with guns, and in the company of each other and others, they robbed William Da Silva of a cell phone valued at $60,000.
