A boat captain leaped into the Essequibo River yesterday after his boat caught fire around 16:00hrs at Fourth Avenue Beach, Bartica yesterday.
According to police, Okema Brummell went to ‘Sir’ Gas Station at 4th Avenue beach Bartica, Essequibo River to purchase gasoline with the said boat.
After purchasing the gasoline, he restarted the engine and in the process, the battery sparked and the boat burst into flames causing him to receive minor burns to his left foot before leaping overboard.
He was rushed to the Bartica Hospital where he received medical treatment and was sent away.
