Advisor to the Health Minister, Dr Leslie Ramsammy, says that the police should “round up” and charge those who are sharing misinformation about COVID-19 vaccines.

The former Health Minister’s comment was made via a recent Facebook post following reports of a child dying after taking a COVID-19 vaccine.

Dr Ramsammy wrote, “Several persons, including teachers and members of the GTU (Guyana Teachers Union), are circulating a post on social media claiming a child died soon after receiving a dose of Pfizer vaccine. This is shameless fake news. Let me (say)unequivocal – no child in Guyana has died because of a Pfizer or any other vaccine. Not at Nabacalis or anywhere else in Guyana.”

Sharing such information, the advisor said, is “mischievous and criminal” behavior.

He added, “I urge all those spreading such fake news to desist immediately. It is not funny. It is deadly. I believe that the police should round up all those who are spreading such false news and charge them.”
