A 34-year-old tyre agent and his wife are in custody after police yesterday found cannabis, a firearm, and ammunition affixed to the interior of their car’s fender.
According to a police report, ranks who were on mobile patrol gave chase behind a white Toyota Axio, registration number PYY 4135, which was intercepted at Bagotstown Public Road East Bank Demerara.
The driver identified himself along with his wife who was in the car at the time. They then allowed the ranks to search the said vehicle in their presence and under the left fender, a black 9mm pistol along with a magazine was found. A black bulky plastic bag was also discovered, which contained a quantity of cannabis leaves, seeds, and stems, along with a transparent plastic bag with tissues containing five live 9mm rounds.
Asked if they are holder(s) of firearm licenses and they replied in the negative. The duo was informed of the offense, arrested, and escorted to the Ruimveldt Police Station where they were placed into custody.
The items were sealed marked and lodged. The cannabis weighed 80 grams. Investigations are ongoing.
