Twenty-nine-year-old Raul Rodrigues, a Police Constable stationed at Central Police Station, New Amsterdam Berbice, was stabbed yesterday evening during a scuffle at Canfield Settlement, East Canje, Berbice.
Enquiries disclosed that the victim and the accused are siblings, and around 18:00hrs, the men had a misunderstanding which led to a scuffle.
The suspect armed himself with a knife and stabbed the victim several times to his abdomen and once to his right leg.
Rodrigues’ brother-in-law then dealt the victim several cuffs about his body after his failed attempt to bring peace amongst the brothers.
Shortly after, the injured cop was escorted to the New Amsterdam Public Hospital, where he was seen and examined by a doctor and admitted a patient in the intensive care unit.
Both brother and brother-in-law have been labeled suspects and are in police custody as investigations continue.
