Commander for Regional Police Division 4‘B’, Senior Superintendent Mahendra Siwnarine has confirmed that the two suspects who tried to rob a 56-year-old Covent Garden, East Bank Demerara (EBD) housewife yesterday around noon, were captured and will be charged for attempted robbery.
The two men, Jose Fraser, 25, of Bagotstown, EBD, and 20-year-old Jaleel Thomas of Diamond, EBD, are expected to appear in court tomorrow. Additionally, one of the suspects is being grilled in connection with another robbery.
The duo attempted to rob the woman after gaining access to her yard by impersonating Guyana Power and Light (GPL) meter readers.
After they were granted access, they attempted to rob the woman, who began shouting “thief”. They fled after the woman’s outburst. While they were escaping, residents with the aid of a Guyana Revenue Authority (GRA) official and a traffic rank captured one of the suspects. The other was nabbed sometime later.
