A 20-year-old woman of Cummings Park Sophia, Georgetown was arrested yesterday after she attempted to smuggle marijuana in blue soap into the Lusignan Prison, East Coast Demerara.
Investigations revealed that the suspect went to the prison to take items for an inmate. On arrival, a search was conducted on a bag she was carrying containing a quantity of blue soap.
Upon examination of the soap, eight plastic parcels with cannabis leaves, seeds, and stems were found.
The suspect was told of the allegation, cautioned, and arrested before being escorted with the narcotics to the Vigilance Police Station.
The narcotic was weighed and amounted to 22 grams.
The suspect is in custody assisting with the investigations.
