A 36-year-old businesswoman is now hospitalised after she was shot by a man last night at her home, Block 22 Squatting Area, Wismar Linden.
Enquiries disclosed that the victim operates a grocery shop to the front of her home and about 17:00hrs, the suspect – who is her ex-husband – stopped in a motor vehicle and made threats saying “I gon kill you and yuh man”.
The woman ignored him and continued to do what she was doing.
At about 19:30hrs, she was at the counter within her grocery shop when the suspect entered, armed with a handgun, and fired two shots in her direction.
One of the bullets struck her to the right side abdomen causing her to fall to the ground.
The suspect then made good his escape on foot in an unknown direction.
The victim managed to make a phone call to her church members who assisted in taking her to the Linden Hospital Complex. She was seen and examined by a doctor on duty who admitted her to the institution.
Acting on information received, the suspect was arrested at Canvas City about 20:45hrs and escorted to the McKenzie Police Station where he was told of the allegation, cautioned and he opted to remain silent.
He was placed in custody pending investigations.
