Paul Braithwaite, 28, of Lot 6 Barnwell North, Mocha, East Bank Demerara (EBD) was killed last night around 23:30hrs at Pepper Hill, Mocha, EBD. The 31-year-old male suspect has since been arrested.
Guyana Standard was informed that the victim and the suspect are known to each other, and were friends up until September 2020 when they had a misunderstanding over a girl. They would periodically get into heated arguments.
Last night they were both hanging out at Arcadia Street Mocha EBD, when they broke out into a heated argument, which resulted in both of them brandishing knives and stabbing each other several times about their bodies.
As Braithwaite was fleeing the scene, he fell onto the western side of the road and became motionless.
The suspect then ran to the Mocha Police Outpost and reported the incident and he was told of the offense committed, cautioned, and arrested. Based on his injuries, he was escorted to the Diamond Diagnostic Centre where he was seen by a doctor on duty, treated, and sent away.
A party of police responded to the said report and upon arrival, they found the victim with several suspected stab wounds about his body.
The body was then escorted to the Diamond Diagnostic Centre. Braithwaite was pronounced dead on arrival and subsequently transported to the Memorial Gardens Funeral home awaiting a post mortem examination.
Further investigations are underway.
