An 18-year-old male cashier of Papie Superbet, Tuschen Public Road, East Bank Essequibo was robbed two nights ago. He was relieved of $367,000 from a knife-wielding bandit, police say.

Enquiries disclosed that the victim was closing the Superbet shop when the suspect walked into the building and pulled out a white-handled knife from his waist area and pointed it to the victim’s chest.

He subsequently dealt him several lashes about the body and went on to slam the victim’s head against the wall.

The suspect then went into the cashier area and removed the aforementioned cash from a box and made good his escape on foot in a southern direction.

The victim raised an alarm and the police were summoned.

The victim received injuries to his right side jaw and was taken to the Leonora Cottage Hospital where he was seen by a doctor on duty, treated, and sent away.

Investigation in progress.
