Guyana recorded 119 murders and 335 armed robberies between the period of January 1 to November 8, 2021. The figures represent decreases at 10.5% and 29.8% respectively, in comparison to the same period last year, Crime Chief, Wendell Blanhum said today.

Overall, some 1,700 serious crimes were committed during this year, compared to 2,109 during the same period last year. This represents a 19.4% decrease in serious crimes including murder, robbery, robbery under arms, robbery with aggravation, larceny, burglary, and break and enter. No kidnapping occurred during the two periods under review.

Guyana also recorded 254 cases of rape this year, compared to 163 last year. This translates to a 55.8 percent increase. Robbery with violence also saw an 8.1 percent increase with 80 committed up to November 2021, compared to the 74 in 2020.
