The body of 21-year-old Shaheed Alli, a construction worker of ‘B’ Field Sophia, was fished from the Hope Canal yesterday, a day after he disappeared during a swim.
His body was identified by his mother. The body was examined and no marks of violence were seen, however his face was damaged and it is suspected to have been eaten by fishes, the Guyana Police Force said.
The body was uplifted and escorted to the Memorial Gardens Funeral Home where he was placed in the mortuary awaiting a post mortem examination.
Guyana Standard was informed yesterday that Alli and two others were consuming wine and energy drinks when they decided to take a swim in the Hope Canal around 15:00hrs. Alli reportedly jumped into the canal but failed to resurface.
