Today, Agriculture Minister, Zulfikar Mustapha and Senior Minister in the Office of the President with responsibility for Finance, Dr. Ashni Singh spearheaded Government’s $250,000 one-off grant distribution exercise at the Wales Estate, West Bank Demerara.
The grant was first announced by Vice President Dr. Bharrat Jagdeo during a meeting with severed workers in October this year.
While addressing the gathering, Minister Mustapha said today’s distribution represents another fulfilled commitment by the PPP/C Government.
Meanwhile, Dr. Singh disclosed that with the establishment of the Wales Development Authority residents from Wales and other communities in the region stand to benefit from hundreds of jobs.
Over 930 sugar workers benefitted from today’s exercise, which represents a payout of approximately $232 million.
