Opposition Member of Parliament (MP) Sherod Duncan was arrested at around 11:00hr today to assist in an ongoing investigation in relation to a cybercrime offence.
According to police, at around 11:30hrs yesterday, Aneal Giddings, the 36-year-old Information Technology (IT) Manager at the Guyana Elections Commission (GECOM), reported to the Guyana Police Force that on January 11, 2022, at about 20:00hrs, Duncan, on his programme “In the Ring” on Facebook made derogatory statements in which he was called by name and referred to as ‘jagabat’, ‘trench crappo’ amongst other disrespectful names which caused him significant emotional stress and humiliation.
As such, the mentioned video was identified and downloaded from the Facebook page under the name ‘Sherod Avery Duncan’ by Inspector Blair.
A statement was taken from Aneal Giddings and an investigation has commenced.
