A woman, who was caught on camera stealing a bag of money amounting to over $600,000, was denied bail.
Denise Hamilton, aka Joy Hamilton, was brought before Senior Magistrate Leron Daly at the Georgetown Magistrates’ Courts.
The charge against her alleges that on January 17, 2022, at Robb Street, Georgetown, she stole $684,000 property of Maylin Ortiz Rodriguez. Hamilton pleaded not guilty but was remanded until March 25.
According to the facts, on the day in question Rodriguez was shopping in a store and she rested her hand bag with the Guyana and United States monies on a counter. After returning to her bag she observed that the bag containing the money was missing. The matter was reported to the police and the police during investigations, reviewed the stores’ CCTV footage and saw Hamilton stealing the purse.
Moments after, Hamilton was contacted and told of the allegation. She told the police that she was in the area but she did not remove the money. A search of her belongings was carried out and $56,700 was found on her. She was then arrested for the theft.
