The sum of $6.6 billion has been allocated for the the construction, rehabilitation, extension, and maintenance of educational facilities in Guyana.
The fund will also serve the reconstruction of North Ruimveldt and North West Secondary schools that were destroyed by fire last year.
The North West school at Mabaruma, Region One was destroyed by fire last September, while the North Ruimveldt Multilateral Secondary School suffered damages on June 19, 2021 due to a blaze that destroyed the building’s housing classrooms, the Information Technology lab, Science Labs, and the Home Economics Department.
Also, monies have been allocated for the construction of the Prospect Secondary School. Further, nursery schools at Hydronie, Haslington and Vryheid Lust and primary schools at Bamia/Amelia’s Ward, Kaikan, Karabairu, Zeelugt and Oronoque are slated for construction works.
The Kato and the Linden Technical Institute dormitories will be completed using these funds. Additionally, a number of schools and educational facilities will be rehabilitated and maintained in 2022.
