Police have disclosed that 40-year-old Aubrey Baird, a clothes vendor of lot 22 E Hardina Street, was killed during an altercation on Tuesday night around 21:00hrs at Hardina Street, between Norton and D’Urban Streets
Eyewitnesses told police that Baird and the suspect were seen fighting in a drain, and as the scuffle ensued, it was further observed that Baird dealt the suspect a lash to his body with a piece of wood.
The suspect, who was armed with a knife, dealt the victim two stabs to his left side upper chest. He then attempted to make good his escape on a pedal cycle but was apprehended by public-spirited citizens and subsequently handed over to police.
The injured man was picked up by an electrician and his son and taken to the Georgetown Public Hospital Corporation (GPHC), where he was pronounced dead at approximately 21:40 hrs whilst receiving treatment.
The suspect was also escorted to GPHC where he was admitted as a patient under police guard in a stable condition.
