Twenty-five-year-old Randy Leacock, a labourer of Block 42 Amelia’s Ward Linden, was yesterday released on a total of $80,000 bail, while Claude Hoyte, called CJ, 25, unemployed of Lot 115 Lower Kara Kara Linden, was remanded pending a psychiatric evaluation.

They both were arrested on February 5, 2022 and charged yesterday with three offences. The first pertains to Malicious Damage to property: Contrary to Section 160 of the Criminal Law Offences Act Chapter 8:01, committed on the shop of businessman Nigel Leacock, which occurred between 20th and 21st January, 2022 at MacKenzie Market, Linden;

The second charge is in relation to Break and Enter and Larceny: Contrary to Section 229 (a) of the Criminal Law Offences Act Chapter 8:01, committed on the shop of businesswoman Debra Marks, which occurred between January 20 to 21 2022 at MacKenzie Market, Linden. The final charge pertains to Malicious Damage to Property, Contrary to Section 61 of the Summary Jurisdiction Offences Act Chapter 8:02, committed on the shop of businessman Mark Bentick Male which occurred between January 20-21, 2022 at the MacKenzie Market, Linden.

On Tuesday February 8, 2022 about 10:00 hours, the two accused appeared before Magistrate Wanda Fortune at the Linden Magistrate’s Court via Zoom, where they were jointly charged with the above mentioned offences.

Leacock pleaded not guilty and was granted bail in the sum $40,000 for the Break and Enter and Larceny charge and $40,000 for the Malicious Damage to property (indictable) charge. He was placed on his own recognizance for the Damage to Property (summary) charge with the condition of bail being that he must report every first and third Friday of each month to the Mackenzie Police Station’s Criminal Investigation Department.

Claude Hoyte was not required to plea and the Magistrate remanded him pending a psychiatric evaluation.

The matters were adjourned until February 18, 2022 for statements.
