A motion has been moved to have Opposition Parliamentarian, Sherod Duncan suspended from the next four sittings of the National Assembly, after a furore erupted this afternoon.

Local Government and Regional Development Minister, Nigel Dharamlall, while he was responding to questions related to the allocation of monies in budget 2022, hurled remarks at a female Opposition Parliamentarian, allegedly calling her “old” among other unsavoury remarks, to which Duncan entered the chamber and called Dharamlall “a nasty man”.

The Speaker, Manzoor Nadir requested Duncan to desist, but he refused.

Nadir subsequently asked the government Chief Whip and Governance Minister, Gail Teixeira to table a motion to have Duncan suspended.

The sitting came to a halt and opposition Parliamentarians began to exit the dome.
