People’s National Congress Reform (PNCR) Leader, Aubrey Norton is challenging the Guyana Police Force (GPF) to probe the allegation of bribetaking levelled against Vice President and former Head of State, Bharrat Jagdeo.
The accusation was publicized during an interview between Jagdeo and a Vice News reporter, in which he was informed that a Chinese national “Su” said that he (Jagdeo) would collect monies in return for his approval for Chinese companies to operate in Guyana.
Norton said that rather than being “truthful”, Jagdeo has gone after Opposition officials and has even suggested that there is a conspiracy to undermine China’s influence in Guyana.
The PNCR Leader said that the GPF must probe this allegation.
“Our Party has already called on the police to investigate this matter. We repeat that call here. We challenge the Guyana Police Force to investigate Bharrat Jagdeo. Such action will allow the GPF to overcome the perception and reality, that efforts by law enforcement mostly target the poor and the powerless. At minimum, Mr. Su should be thoroughly questioned,” Norton remarked.
He added that this probe is warranted given the massive infrastructural programmes already in motion or in the pipeline.
Norton said that all Guyanese should be deeply troubled since it is the Vice President and former Head of State who is being accused of illegality.
