As he addressed hundreds in attendance at the International Energy Conference and Expo at the Marriott Hotel in Kingston this morning, President of Guyana, Irfaan Ali declared that there will be no retreat from realizing the government’s energy agenda.
One of the priorities on that agenda is to relieve consumers of currant burden of expensive energy. President Ali said that the government is focused on reducing the cost of energy by at least 50 per cent. Ali said that the true potential of Guyana’s manufacturing sector cannot be realized until such time that energy becomes affordable.
The government intends to utilize associated gas found offshore Guyana for a gas to energy project. The President and Cabinet have every faith in that project as a means to reduce energy cost.
Despite local opposition, Budget 2022 provides money to offset the project.
Another aspect of Guyana’s energy agenda as articulated by President Ali is realizing a dynamic energy mix that will serve in the medium to long term transition to 100 percent renewable energy.
Ali said that Guyana has every intention to tap into its solar, wind and water resources for the provision of energy.
