Yesterday, Customs Anti Narcotic Unit (CANU) officers conducted an operation at Number 69 Village, Corentyne Berbice, which resulted in the seizure of 58.8 kg (129.6 lbs.) of cannabis and one vehicle with the registration number PKK 4588.
During the operation, two male occupants exited the car and opened fire when confronted by CANU officers, before fleeing.
The cannabis seized is believed to have been intended for transhipment to Suriname and has a street value of GYD$17,640,000.
These operations are a part of CANU’s efforts to curb the flow of narcotics in the said district. CANU reminds persons that trafficking in narcotics is illegal and persons caught will be prosecuted according to the law and assets confiscated.
