The main Parliamentary Opposition, the A Partnership for National Unity + Alliance for Change (APNU+AFC) is seeking answers to what it dubs as the “discriminatory” allocation of funds to Neighbourhood Democratic Council (NDCs) of community cleanups.
A Notice of Question was submitted by Opposition MP and People’s National Congress Reform (PNCR) Chairman, Shurwayne Holder yesterday seeking an explanation from the Minister of Local Government and Regional Development, Nigel Dharamlall.
At the Party’s Press Conference on March 1, 2022 the PNCR Leader, Aubrey Norton said that President Dr Irfaan Ali’s call for “One Guyana” was mere rhetoric, citing the apparent inconsistencies in disbursements to NDCs in opposition strongholds.
While government-led NDCs received several millions of dollars in direct funding to conduct cleaning exercises, opposition-led NDCs were not allocated any money, Norton alleged.
