The 18-year-old driver, Matthew Ambedkar, who was allegedly street racing when he rammed into a West Coast Demerara (WCD) drinking establishment on Monday last, killing three persons, was today remanded to prison.
Guyana Standard understands that he was charged with three counts of Causing Death by Dangerous Driving.
He appeared today at the Leonora Magistrate Court before Her Worship Ms Seepaul Ali who read the charges to him. He was not required to plea and was remanded to prison until March 24, 2022.
According to reports, Ambedkar’s car slammed into the Sharmilla Harikissoon Sports Bar at De Willem and in the process, killed 23-year-old pedestrian, Carlito Kissoon Gobinlall of De Willem; 46-year-old, Kiran Rampersaud, a fisherman of lot 41 Zeeburg, WCD; and 44-year-old Ayube Mohamed. At least two others suffered minor injuries.
