Twenty-six-year-old Eon Gonsalves, called “Belly”, a labourer of Grant 1802 Crabwood Creek, Corentyne, Berbice was today charged with the murder of 21-year-old, overseas-based Guyanese, Lakhan Chaterpal, which occurred one week ago at Crabwood Creek.
Gonsalves appeared at the No.51 Magistrate’s Court before Magistrate Alex Moore and was not required to plea. He was remanded to prison and the case was postponed to May 31, 2022, for report.
Police are currently searching for two other suspects.
Chaterpal, of Ohio, USA, had journeyed to Guyana to participate in his brother’s wedding. During the celebration, several men entered the yard but were later asked to leave. Angered by their eviction, the men proceeded to the road where they reportedly began acting in an unruly manner.
Chaterpal engaged the men and an argument is said to have ensued. During the row, the 21-year-old was stabbed.
