Detectives this evening found 28-year-old Rohan Kirpaul Mangra hiding in a Hadfield Street, Georgetown hotel, days after it was alleged that he had been kidnapped.
Mangra, according to information received, was relaxing inside a room at the hotel with a male when ranks visited moments ago to question staffers. Since this morning, ranks had been visiting hotels around Georgetown with hopes of finding information regarding the young man‘s disappearance after it had been revealed that he and two male acquaintances had gone to at least two city hotels to find a room.
Ranks were shocked to find Mangra in good health in the company of one of the individuals captured on surveillance footage. His relatives had alleged that he went missing on March 15, last after leaving his Cummings Lodge, East Coast Demerara home to hang out with his friends. Shortly after this, all calls to his phone went unanswered.
He was seen on surveillance footage at one of the hotels at 2:00am on March 16, last.
A one million dollar reward was offered for information. It was the reward that resulted in cops receiving several tips from employees at various hotels and entertainment spots around Georgetown. Ranks just had to connect the dots to find the US citizen.
Surveillance footage at two hotels captured Mangra and his acquaintances inquiring about a vacant room. They left after being told that all the rooms were booked already.
They were eventually able to book a room at an East Coast Demerara hotel where they spent at least two hours before leaving and heading in the direction of Georgetown.
It is believed that Mangra then headed straight to the Hadfield Street hotel where he continued to hide from his relatives in a bid to fake his abduction.
More information will follow soon.
