The $65.2M reconstruction of the Providence Police Station, which commenced on July 23, 2021, is now 80 percent complete.
After an extension to the completion date was granted, the station is projected to be completed by next month. Some of the remaining works include painting, electrical, plumbing and the installation of cameras.
The Ruimveldt Police Station, which also commenced reconstruction works on July 23, 2021, is currently at 60 per cent completion. The old building was also torn down, and the erection of the new building commenced at a total cost of G$58, 899, 390. An extension was also granted to the completion deadline, however, works to the ceiling, tiling, plumbing, electrical, painting, external concreting and the completion of the waiting area are still to be completed.
The Senior Officers’ Living Quarters located at Young Street, Eve-Leary, is completed and is expected to be handed over to the Guyana Police Force very soon. This project, which commenced on May 28, 2021, costs G$45,016, 820.
Both the Ruimveldt and Providence Police Stations will have a Domestic Violence Waiting Area and interview room, a children-friendly area and an ID parade room.
The updates were provided during a visit by the Permanent Secretary (PS) of the Ministry of Home Affairs, Mae Toussaint Jr. Thomas, yesterday. Also accompanying the PS were Assistant Superintendent of Police Mahindra Singh, Officer in Charge of the Construction Department of the Guyana Police Force and an Engineering team from the Ministry.
