A nineteen-year-old marketing clerk who was busted with 17.1 kilogrammes of cannabis was today charged and remanded.
Anasia McAllister, of Perry Street, Tucville Georgetown, was hauled before Chief Magistrate Ann McLennan at the Georgetown Magistrates’ Courts.
She was charged with possession of 17.1 kilogrammes of cannabis for the purpose of trafficking. The offense was alleged to have been committed on March 26. The matter was adjourned until April 19.
According to a police report, on Sunday, ranks of the Police Narcotics Branch, Criminal Investigations Department, Eve Leary, Georgetown, went to the home of the young woman where searches were conducted on the premises. The police allegedly went to the home based on information received.
It was reported that the detectives found two brown boxes under a bed and upon checking, it was discovered that several rectangular brown duct tape parcels were within. The parcels were opened in the presence of the woman. The parcels contained a quantity of leaves, seeds and stems suspected to be cannabis sativa, the police said.
McAllister was told of the offence committed, arrested and escorted to Narcotics Branch along with the suspected cannabis. The suspected narcotics was weighed and it amounted to 37.70 pounds equivalent to 17.1 kilogrammes.
