The Guyana Fire Service this morning responded to a road accident where ranks of the Central Fire Station and Emergency Medical Services assisted in removing several persons who had been trapped in a motor vehicle.
The incident occurred at Avenue of the Republic and the motor vehicle involved was a silver-grey Premio bearing registration number PSS624, owned and driven by twenty-five-year-old Matthew Clarke of Dazzle Housing Scheme, East Coast Demerara.
As a result of the accident, four persons received injuries and had to be extricated from the vehicle which was stuck in a trench.
Those persons were successfully rescued and transported to the Georgetown Public Hospital by an ambulance and Emergency Medical Technicians.
Minister of Home Affairs, Robeson Benn who was on the scene, said he was pleased with the diligent efforts made by Firefighters, Emergency Medical Technicians and Police in rescuing and transporting the injured persons to the hospital.
The Guyana Fire Service is appealing to citizens to be cautious on the roadways.
Speeding continues to be one of the leading causes of accidents, some of which claimed the lives of both young and old.
Citizens are therefore urged to buckle up, slow down and adhere to the traffic laws in place to ensure safety on the roadways.
