Thirty-eight-year-old miner, Damyon Gibson of Lot 17 Caribese Hill, Bartica, Essequibo River, lost his life yesterday at Two Point Backdam, Cuyuni River during a freak accident.
Police say that Gibson, who owned a 4- inch land dredging operation, around noon, was conversing with a friend at the work ground when suddenly, a branch from a nearby tree fell and struck him to his head, causing him to received injuries.
His workers rushed to his assistance and took him to Aurora Mining Company, Cuyuni River, where he was pronounced dead by a doctor on duty.
His body was later transported to the Bartica Regional Hospital where police observed injuries to his head and right hand.
The body is presently lying at the Bartica Hospital mortuary awaiting a post-mortem examination.
