Police say that 49-year-old, Michael Sooklall was charged today with the murder of Pitamber Sharma, 69, whose body was found afloat the Mazaruni River in proximity to his place of employment, BK Quarries, earlier this week.
Sooklall appeared this morning before Magistrate Chrystal Lambert at the Bartica Magistrate’s Court where the charge was to him and he was not required to plead.
He was remanded to prison until April 27, 2022 for disclosure.
Sharma’s body was found floating in the Mazaruni River in the vicinity of the guard hut. A post-mortem examination concluded that Sharma, of Independence Street, West Coast Demerara died by manual strangulation sometime between March 30 and March 31.
He was found dead mere hours after reporting for duty.
