Guyana has become the first country in the Caribbean Community (CARICOM) to secure the “Football For Schools” programme through the International Federation of Association Football (FIFA) in partnership with the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO).
The country is also the first in the Confederation of North, Central America and Caribbean Association Football (CONCACAF) to partake in the programme.
The achievement has been dubbed monumental for Guyana and has huge potential for the development of young Guyanese.
In attendance for today’s Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) signing ceremony were the Minister of Culture Youth and Sport, Charles S Ramson; the Minister of Education, Priya Manickchand; the President of the Guyana Football Federation, Wayne Forde; and the Project Leader, Football for Schools, FIFA Foundation, Alexandre Gros.
Also in attendance were the Chairman of the National Sports Commission, Kashif Muhammad; Commissioners of the National Sports Commission, Dellon Davidson, Cheteram Ramdial, and Cristy Campbell; and the Director of Sports of the National Sports Commission, Steve Ninvalle.
