Regional Chairman for Region 10, Deron Adams is once again calling for the firing of the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the Linden Hospital Complex, Rudy Small.
Adams contends that Small has taken upon himself, the power to make “unilateral” decisions. The Chairman said that the CEO is “too toxic”, and his actions are forcing nurses to seek better opportunities abroad.
“Over 50 nurses from Linden Hospital Complex, they would have already left for the UK. Another batch is slated to leave for greener pastures as a result of the actions of the very CEO,” Adams said during an opposition, People’s National Congress Reform (PNCR) -organised press conference on Tuesday.
The CEO faced placards last year for some controversial remarks against nurses at the Complex. In February 2021, Small publicly characterized nurses at the organisation as loose and immoral persons who would abandon patients in the evening to go and engage in illicit sexual activities.
Despite his apology, nurses are still calling for his removal, alleging that Small still operates in a distasteful manner.
The insult to injury came just last month when he presided over the issuance of dismissal letters to 27 hospital employees, mostly those on the auxiliary staff.
A day after the letters were served, the Minister of Health, Dr Frank Anthony personally intervened and gave assurances that those employees will not be cast on the breadline.
He said, “When the ministry learned about it, we reached out to the CEO and asked him to rescind the letters, so as of last night, all those letters should’ve been rescinded so nobody is going home, so I just want to make sure that people understand that. We’ll expect that the contracts for all those persons will be renewed and would be renewed for the usual duration.”
But according to Regional Chairman Deron Adams, dismissal letters from disgruntled employees are still being forwarded to his office for his intervention.
