Commander for Regional Division Eight, Senior Superintendent Michael Kingston has confirmed the recapture of a high-profile convicted prisoner, who escaped from the Mazuruni Prison on February 15, 2021.
Around 04:30hrs on Tuesday, Samuel Gouveia, 27, was nabbed at the Mahdia Police Station, where he sought medical attention for a wound to his neck. On Monday, Gouveia was reportedly wounded about 23:30hrs at Mowasie landing, Konawaruk.
It is alleged that Gouveia had a heated argument with a man over money and was stabbed to his neck. Gouveia was escorted to the Georgetown Public Hospital as a patient.
He was positively identified by a prison officer and by records and tattoos on his left hand.
Gouveia was convicted to 18 years, 9 months imprisonment for manslaughter.
He is under police guard at the said hospital. Investigations are ongoing.
