Police are investigating a robbery under arms that occurred at the Guyoil Gas Station at Good Hope, Mahaica, East Coast Demerara (ECD) on Wednesday last.
The crime was committed around 17:30hrs and was carried out by three men armed with firearms and a knife. The gas station is owned by 44-year-old Rovin Ramsaroop of Good Hope.
Enquiries disclosed that two pump attendants were performing their duties at the pump station and while one of them was fueling a Route 50 minibus, BWW 2987, three armed and masked males entered the gas station. They held onto the pump attendants and relieved them of cash.
Subsequently, the bandits entered the minibus, held up the passengers and relieved them of their belongings before making good their escape to the western side of the gas station.
Pump attendant, 19-year-old Alisha Barnes was relieved of $160,000, property of the gas station, while her workmate, 20-year-old Iyansha Moses was robbed of $80,000, also said to be the property of the gas station.
The minibus driver, 39-year-old Iftikar Rahamat, was robbed of US$400, GYD$18,000, the key to his bus, and two Samsung S9 cellular phones with sim cards valued at $300,000.
David Shaiwupaul, a 67-year-old pensioner of Cove and John was robbed of a wallet containing documents, GYD$100,000, and a cellular phone valued at $100,000.
The bandits also made off with GYD$10,000, a wallet and a Samsung Galaxy phone with a sim card valued at $45,000, the property of Errol Wheeler, a 44-year-old security guard from Mahaica.
Nicholas Narine, a 44-year-old shopkeeper of Mahaica, ECD, was relieved of a key to a canter bearing license plate GPP 2645.
One person has since been arrested.
