A motorcyclist who was involved in a serious accident with a 13-year-old pedestrian on Thursday, succumbed to his injuries while undergoing emergency treatment at the Georgetown Public Hospital Corporation (GPHC).
The accident occurred about 16:30hrs on the Nelson Mandela Avenue, in the vicinity of the Botanical Gardens in Georgetown.
It involved a motorcycle, CJ 4459 owned and driven by Thakur Rajnarine, of Lot 76 Sheriff Street Campbellville, Georgetown and a 13-year-old pedestrian of John Street, Campbellville.
Enquires disclosed that motorcycle, CJ 4459, was proceeding south on the eastern drive lane of Nelson Mandela Avenue while the pedestrian was crossing the said road going from west to east. As the pedestrian was in the center of the eastern drive lane, the front of the motorcycle came into contact with the child.
As a result of the collision, both the motorcyclist and the pedestrian fell onto the road’ surface where they received injuries about their bodies. They were picked up by public-spirited citizens and transported to the Georgetown Public Hospital. The child was treated and sent away while Rajnarine was admitted.
About 22:10hrs last night, he succumbed.
His body is currently at in the Memorial Gardens Funeral Home awaiting a post-mortem examination.
Investigations are ongoing.
