Cops in Regional Division 4 ‘A’ are investigating the stabbing of 39-year-old Sharon Hoppie of Lot 32 Hadfield Street, Lodge, Georgetown.
The woman was stabbed by her ex-boyfriend around 03:30hrs this morning.
According to police, the duo’s relationship ended about two months ago, but the suspect would still visit occasionally. Guyana Standard understands that the ex-boyfriend visited the woman’s home last night and met another man, who subsequently left.
An argument ensued between the duo. But because it was late, she allowed him to stay until morning. She then went to bed.
Moments later, the man went into the victim’s room and stood over her with a knife. In the process of fighting him off, he dealt her two stabs, one to her neck and another to her abdomen. He then fled the scene.
An alarm was raised and the woman was rushed to the Georgetown Public Hospital, where she was treated. Her condition is regarded as stable.
The suspect remains at large as investigations continue.
