Police are investigating a robbery that occurred in the vicinity of Ascension Primary School, West Ruimveldt, around 00:30hrs on Thursday by three armed men.
The victim is Ikechukwu Otiko, a 47-year-old Medical Student of Rajiv Gandhi University of Science and Technology. He was relieved of a silver-grey Allion motorcar, PNN 2975, worth $1.3 million; one pink iPhone 7 cellular phone with a sim card valued at $50,000; and GYD$40,000.
Investigations revealed that the victim, who works as a taxi driver, picked up one of the perpetrators at Survival Supermarket located on Sheriff Street.
The passenger requested to be taken to Ice House Road, West Ruimveldt. On arrival there, the driver stopped the motorcar and was confronted by two men, who came on foot from an unknown location.
They pointed guns at the victim and demanded that he exited his car. A scuffle ensued between Otiko and the perpetrators, and one of the gunmen dealt the victim several lashes to his face with a handgun.
The suspects managed to get the victim out of the car before escaping with it along with the aforementioned articles that were inside.
CCTV camera footage is being reviewed by investigators.
