Opposition Leader, Aubrey Norton has called President Dr Irfaan Ali “disrespectful”, claiming that the Head of State has failed to honour an agreed-upon time for a follow-up meeting to consult on the appointment of persons to sit on several constitutional and statutory commissions.

Norton, during a press conference this morning, said that it was agreed that another meeting would be facilitated within seven days after the first engagement on May 13, 2022. However, 12 days have since passed, and Norton claims to have not heard from Ali.

“Now, in my opinion, the President is very disrespectful. They do not honour agreements. This was an agreement that was made between the Opposition [Leader] and the President that we will meet in one week.

“Until now, I have not heard from the President, and I hope that the President does not believe that when he says he wants to meet, I would disrupt my schedule of meeting the people of Guyana and doing my work just to meet with him. I want the world to know that the very first arrangement he put in writing on when we shall meet, has been violated,” Norton said.
