Police are investigating the alleged murder of Neil Rampersaud, a 31-year-old engineer of Better Hope, ECD, who threatened to report his neighbour to the police for stabbing a carpenter.
The incident occurred about 07:38hrs today (Sunday May 29) in the vicinity of Zahora Street, Better Hope.
The suspect is a 40-year-old male of Victoria Road, Plaisance, ECD.
Enquiries disclosed that around 6:35 hrs, the suspect and a 42-year-old carpenter, Mohan Panchu of Better Hope had an argument which saw the suspect arming himself with a steel rod. The suspect used the said metal object to stab Panchu several times, causing injuries for which he is seeking medical attention.
Neil Rampersaud, who lives in the same street with Panchu, was alerted of the incident and around 7:38 hours this morning, he confronted the suspect in the vicinity of Zahora Street, Better Hope. Rampersaud told the suspect that his actions were wrong and that he has to go to the police station as he will make a report about the matter.
Rampersaud and the suspect then got into a fight. Guyana Standard understands that during the altercation, the suspect armed himself with a ‘coconut blade’, and stabbed Rampersaud in the upper left side of his rib cage causing severe injuries.
Rampersaud was later escorted to the Woodlands Hospital where he succumbed whilst receiving medical treatment.
The body of the deceased was escorted to the Memorial Gardens Funeral Home awaiting a a post mortem examination.
This news agency was informed that the suspect was arrested and is in custody at the Sparendaam Police Station. Police also have in their possession the ‘coconut blade’ which they took from the suspect.
Investigations are ongoing.
