Cops in Regional Division 4 ‘B’ are investigating a shooting incident that occurred at Swan Village, Soesdyke-Linden Highway, yesterday about 21:05hrs, involving a 64-year-old farmer and two men.

Enquiries disclosed that the 64-year-old farmer who is a licensed owner of a twelve-gauge single-barrel shotgun, also owns a small scale chicken farm and a mini grocery shop which is located at his residence. The shop sells chicken and eggs.

At about 19:30hrs, the farmer closed his business and went into his kitchen to prepare his meal when he heard someone calling for him. He ventured outside and saw two men, one of whom inquired about purchasing eggs.

The farmer told the men that his shop was already closed, but the perpetrators pleaded with him for a sale. The farmer still maintained his position. Given his refusal, the perpetrators became annoyed and one of them allegedly withdrew a handgun from the waist of his pants and pointed same in the farmer’s direction and discharged a single round.

The farmer managed to take evasive action and got hold of his licensed firearm and discharged a single round in their direction.

The perpetrators then ran away in an unknown direction making good their escape.

Investigations are in progress.
