A security guard who was stationed at the Princess Ramada Hotel, East Bank Demerara (EBD) was shot yesterday by his colleague during a row. Junior Mohan, 30, was shot in the leg by his workmate, a 27-year-old security guard during a disagreement over the parking of cars in the hotel’s driveway.

Investigations revealed that both the suspect and victim are employed by the same security service which is located on Sheriff Street, Georgetown. The suspect is a supernumerary constable.

It was reported that during the argument, the suspect got annoyed and pulled out his firearm, a Glock 19 Pistol which had 10 live matching 9mm rounds of ammunition, and shot his colleague.

A Police Corporal who was performing duty at the hotel at the time of the incident arrested the suspect and took possession of the firearm.

The scene was processed and one 9mm spent shell was found. The CCTV camera was viewed and footage of the shooting was seen.

Several persons in the area were questioned and some gave oral statements as to what they heard. The victim was escorted to the city hospital where he underwent immediate surgery, while the firearm and ammunition were marked and lodged with the sergeant at the Providence Police station.

A video interview was conducted with the suspect.

Further investigations are ongoing.
