Swift action by police ranks in Regional Division 4’B’ led to the arrest of two men who broke into the New Era General Supermarket located at Farm, East Bank Demerara (EBD) and carted off a number of tools.
The ranks were alerted of the break-in about 04:15hrs yesterday by an unknown caller who informed the Providence Police Station and reported that thieves were in the said building.
As a result, ranks visited the area where a red Toyota Fielder Wagon motorcar was found parked on a street with a 15-year-old teen of Grove, EBD in the front passenger’s seat.
The ranks, who then conducted a further search in the outlying area, found the two suspects hiding in a clump of bushes in close proximity to the Supermarket with a quantity of tools in their possession.
Reports from the Regional Division indicate that the suspects gained entry into the building by climbing up a metal scaffold which is erected on the southern side of the building. They then entered the fourth floor of the building and then used an inner stairway to make their way to the third floor where the stocks room/tools were located.
The entire ordeal was caught on CCTV cameras on the building.
The suspects who were interviewed by detectives, implicated an employee of the supermarket and three other named individuals as their accomplices.
Checks were made at the homes of the other suspects but they were not found.
The two suspects, who were apprehended with the tools, remain in custody as investigations are ongoing.
